Bluetooth® technology is used to connect devices wirelessly, and send information between the connected devices.
Lexie hearing aids use Bluetooth to connect wirelessly to your devices, like your smartphone or tablet. Just make sure your Bluetooth is switched on and your hearing aids are Bluetooth enabled.
Lexie hearing aids use Bluetooth® technology to enable wireless connectivity to your iPhone® or Android™ device. With Bluetooth, you can control the settings on your hearing aids using the Lexie app, making it easy to customize your listening experience.
It's important to keep your Bluetooth enabled on both your device and hearing aids to ensure optimal performance.
iOS®:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen. Then tap on the Bluetooth® icon to switch it on or off. The icon will be in a highlighted state when it's switched on.
- You can also go to Settings--> Bluetooth and toggle Bluetooth on in the Settings page.
Android™:
- Swipe down from the top of your screen to open up the Control Panel. You can do this at any time or place on your device, regardless of whether an app is open or not.
- Tap on the Bluetooth icon to switch it on or off. If the icon is lit up, then Bluetooth is switched on. If it is not lit, Bluetooth is switched off.
No, the Bluetooth® on your hearing aids automatically switched on when you power your hearing aids on.
You can switch the Bluetooth off on your smartphone or tablet. Your hearing aids will continue to work, but you won't be able to make changes to your hearing aids' settings with the Lexie app.
Bluetooth® technology allows seamless connectivity between your Lexie hearing aids and smart devices, enabling quick and easy control and adjustments with the Lexie app.
Bluetooth® is the biggest battery drainer across all manufacturers and OTC hearing aid models. When using streaming, your Lexie hearing aid battery will drain faster than when the streaming Lexie app commands to adjust your devices.
Streaming is possible over further distances under optimal conditions, we recommend staying about 16 feet (5 meters) from your phone for the best experience.
We recommend using drying capsules or an electronic hearing aid dryer to make sure you have removed all the moisture from your hearing aids.
Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause irreversible damage to your hearing aids.
No! You should never heat your hearing aids up to dry them. Hair dryers, ovens, microwaves, and radiators do a lot more damage than excess moisture to your hearing aids.
To dry your hearing aids effectively you can use drying capsules or an electronic hearing aid dryer. These are available on the Lexie Hearing website.
You should use drying capsules daily, ideally overnight.
If you’re in a humid environment it's a good idea to use them every night to keep your hearing aids dry. If you don't wear your hearing aids often, just make sure to store them with the drying capsules when you're not using them. Don't forget to take your airtight container and drying capsules with you while you're traveling.
Remember, it’s always best to keep your hearing aids dry to help them work their best.
TIP: If your hearing aids are exposed to excessive moisture or humidity, first shake your hearing aids and then wipe them including the contacts with a dry lint-free cloth before placing them with a drying capsule in an airtight container.
NOTE: Damage that has already occured as a result of moisture build-up cannot be undone by drying out your hearing aids. Drying your hearing aids by means of drying capsules or electronic hearing aid dryer can only remove existing moisture and prevent further damage.
You should use your dehumidifier daily, ideally overnight.

Yes, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are a safe and dependable source of energy. They can be recharged many times when used under normal/standard conditions.
Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used in electronics like cellular phones, tablets and headphones or the smaller earbud style earphones.
Problems can arise when the batteries suffer damage from being exposed to water, high temperatures or physical shock.
Refer to the user manual for safe use and maintenance of the batteries in your hearing aids.
Rechargeable hearing aids use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
Yes, damaged lithium-ion batteries have the potential to leak. If the battery leaks, do not allow the liquid to come in contact with the eyes or skin. If contact is made, seek medical attention.
Refer to the user manual for safe use and maintenance of the batteries in your hearing aids.
If your rechargeable hearing aids get wet use a soft, lint-free cloth to remove excess moisture. Using an electronic hearing aid dryer or a dehumidifying jar with drying capsules will ensure that excess moisture is removed from your hearing aid.
TIP: If you live in a humid climate or sweat often, it may help to regularly dry your hearing aids more thoroughly. To do so, after removing residual moisture and charging the hearing aids, remove them from the case and store in a container with drying capsules overnight. Longer if necessary.
NOTE: Not all electronic hearing aid dryers are designed for rechargeable hearing aids. Consult the technical specifications of the electronic hearing aid dryer or manufacturer guidelines to ensure it's compatible with your device.
Yes, your hearing aids and charging case can be taken onto airplanes with your carry on luggage.
We recommend referring to the safety policy of your airline to confirm their safety requirements or any change in regulations.
Taking care of your rechargeable hearing aids and charging case will help them last longer. Here are a few tips to help you to take care of your hearing aids and charging case:
- Before placing your hearing aids in their charging case, remove any residual sweat, moisture or debris from the charging contacts by using a dry, lint-free cloth.
- After daily use, always return your hearing aids to the charging case connected to a power supply - even if they have not been fully drained. Regular charging ensures the devices are in good working condition.
- Do not use hairspray, spray paint, or other sticky sprays when using the devices.
- Do not attempt to modify your hearing aids and /or charging case yourself.
Here are a few ways you can make sure you're storing your hearing aid batteries safely:
- Store your batteries at room temperature. Extreme heat and cold can shorten battery life.
- Do not store batteries next to metal objects, like coins and keys.
- Don't let batteries touch each other.
- Do not store your batteries with your medications. Many pills are the same size and shape as hearing aid batteries. Ingesting a hearing aid battery can be dangerous.
- Store batteries where you can easily find them, but out of reach from children and pets.
Good news, zinc-air batteries are recyclable.
Replaceable zinc-air batteries are harmful to the environment when not disposed of correctly. They shouldn't be discarded with your regular household waste and should be delivered to an appropriate collection facility for recycling.
Contact your local county to see if they offer a drop-off facility for used batteries. Most do.
Replaceable hearing aid batteries can usually last up to seven days, but this depends on your unique hearing aid settings and use.
You can purchase new batteries for your hearing aids from the Lexie app or website, or from any drugstore. Make sure that you purchase size 312 batteries.
You can use any brand of hearing aid batteries, as long as they're a size 312.
Lexie recommended hearing aid batteries are advanced and made to last longer. Shop hearing aid batteries.
Not many people know this, but hearing aid batteries expire!
If you look at the back of your hearing aid packet, you'll see the expiry date printed there. You can use the batteries anytime before that date.
We advise that you replace expired batteries as they may not have enough power to ensure that your hearing aid works optimally.
Yes, hearing aid batteries can be recycled. Contact your local county to see if they offer a drop-off facility for used batteries. Most do.
Behind-the-ear (BTE) and in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids have a crucial part called domes. These soft, medical-grade silicone domes attach to the slim tube or receiver-in-canal (RIC) wire, or the sound outlet of the device. They help:
- Keep the hearing aid snug and secure in your ear
- Direct amplified sounds into your ear canal
- Protect the speaker inside the RIC wire or sound outlet
Domes are designed to be soft and comfortable against your skin, making them gentle on your ears. They also shield the speaker inside the RIC wire or sound outlet from any dirt or debris that might enter your ear canal.
When finding the right dome for you there are some factors to consider:
- Material: Domes are usually made from soft plastic or soft silicone, making them flexible and comfortable.
- Size: Your hearing aid dome should fit snugly and comfortably into your ear canal. A badly fitting dome can cause discomfort.
- Shape: Domes come in many shapes and sizes that offer different benefits.
Depending on your hearing needs and preferences will determine which domes could be best for you.
Here are some different types of domes and their benefits:
- Open domes: They are better for when you have trouble with the sound of your own voice. These domes allow more external sounds into your ear. The hearing aid may seem a bit quieter when you wear one of these domes but it should still sound natural and clear.
- Closed domes: They are better for when you are having trouble with whistling from your hearing aid or need the hearing aid to be a louder. Your ear will feel more blocked with this dome and it will take a bit of time to get used to your own voice.
- Double domes: These domes allow more sound to reach your inner ear and reduce feedback. Your ear may feel more blocked.
- Tulip domes: This is the most versatile dome and accommodates most ear canal sizes (it only comes in one size) and amplification needs.
TIP: Try different types of domes and different sizes to find the ones that are right for your ears and your hearing needs.
To change the dome on your hearing aid just follow these quick steps:
- With one hand, gently hold onto the slim tube or receiver-in-canal (RIC) wire right next to where the dome connects to the slim tube or RIC wire.
- With your other hand grab onto the front of the dome. Now slowly pull the dome off the slim tube or RIC wire. It should be fairly easy for the dome to release from the slim tube or RIC wire.
- Take the new dome and push it firmly onto the slim tube or RIC wire. Make sure that the dome is placed correctly onto the slim tube or RIC wire. You should be able to tug it slightly without removing it
We recommend that you replace your dome with a new one of similar size and shape about every three months to keep your hearing aid working well.
These are some ways you can maintain your domes:
- If you notice a lot of wax buildup in or around the dome, try taking the dome off the slim tube or RIC wire to clean it more effectively.
- Even with proper care, it’s a good idea to replace the domes every three months because they can wear out over time.
Maintaining your domes is an easy way to make sure the sound quality from your hearing aids is at their best.
No, the dome can't get lost in your ear, but it can come off and stay in your ear canal. You should stop using your hearing aids immediately until you have removed the dome from your ear by a healthcare professional. Replace the dome on your hearing aid and start using your hearing aids again once your healthcare professional has given you the all clear.
In the unlikely event that the domes has come off in your ear canal, seek medical attention immediately, DO NOT TRY REMOVE IT YOURSELF.
Yes, hearing aid domes are an essential part of your hearing aid.
The domes are attached to the slim tube or receiver-in-canal (RIC) wire of your hearing aids. Domes make sure your hearing aids fit securely and direct amplified sounds into your ear canal. They also protect the speaker in the RIC wire or sound outlet of your hearing aid.
Domes on your hearing aids may fall off for a couple of reasons.
-
If a dome comes off easily, it might not have been attached properly in the first place. Make sure your domes are securely attached to the slim tubes or receiver-in-canal (RIC) wires, push the domes firmly on to the slim tube or RIC wire, you should be able to give it a gentle tug without it coming off.
-
Over time, the material of the dome can wear down and lose elasticity, which means it doesn't grip as well. This is why it's important to inspect the dome every day and replace it every 2-3 months.
TIP: When putting on a new dome, make sure to align the opening with the slim tube or RIC wire, and slide it on tightly until it fits snugly against the ridge. There shouldn't be any gaps between the dome and the ridge.
If your hearing aids are falling out, it could be due to a few common reasons:
- Incorrect Insertion: Make sure you are inserting the hearing aids correctly. You can check out our "how to insert your hearing aid" video or user manual for guidance. A helpful tip is to gently pull your outer ear backward (not downward) to open up your ear canal, making it easier to place the dome.
TIP: Sometimes it helps if you pull your outer ear backwards (not downwards), opening the entrance of your ear canal, making it easier to insert the dome into your ear canal entrance.
-
Wrong Size of Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) Wire or Slim Tube: If the wire or tube is too short, it can cause discomfort and may pull the dome out of your ear, leading to a loose fit. If it's too long, it can also create a loose fit, making the hearing aid more likely to fall off. Use the ear measuring tool included with your hearing aids to find the right size, and remember that each ear may need a different size.
-
Incorrect Dome Size: The size and shape of the dome matter for a secure fit. If the dome is too small, it can be loose; if it's too big, it may not fit properly in your ear canal. Trying out different sizes can help you find the best fit.
Lastly, double-check that you're using the correct hearing aid for each ear. Look for the color markings on the RIC wire: red is for the right ear, and blue is for the left.
With a little practice and adjustments, you’ll find a comfortable fit!
If your ear canals itch when you use your hearing aids for the first time, this is quite common and usually nothing to worry about! The soft medical-grade silicone of the domes can tickle the inside of your ear canal, leading to that itchy sensation. Most people find that this feeling fades away as they get used to their hearing aids over time.
Here are a few tips to help with the itchiness:
Take breaks: Give your ears a little time to settle by removing your hearing aids for short periods. Start slow: Begin by wearing your hearing aids for short amounts of time, then take breaks, gradually increasing how long you wear them. Try different domes: You might find a different size or type of dome fits better and feels more comfortable. Correct positioning: Make sure the domes and hearing aids are positioned correctly in and over your ears. Clean regularly: Keep up with daily cleaning routines for your hearing aids and domes to prevent any irritation.
Remember, you should avoid poking anything in your ear to scratch the itch or applying cream or lotion to the dome of your hearing aid.
If you have dry skin, eczema, or other skin sensitivities, these can make the itchiness worse, but it’s still safe to use your hearing aids. If the itching becomes a problem or if you have any concerns about allergies or infections, reach out to a healthcare professional for advice.
A slim tube is a lightweight and discreet piece that connects to your hearing aid, helping to channel amplified sound directly into your ear. It keeps your hearing aid secure and comfortably in place, allowing you to go about your daily activities without drawing attention to it.
Your hearing aids should sit comfortably behind your ear with the right size slim tube.
If the slim tube is too short, it can push against the top of your ear, leading to discomfort. It might also cause the dome part to pull outwards, making the hearing aid feel loose – almost like it could fall out.
On the other hand, if the slim tube is too long, it can also make the hearing aid fit loosely over the top and behind your ear, increasing the chances of it slipping off.
To find the best fit and get the best sound from your hearing aids, try out different sizes of slim tubes to see which one feels just right for each ear. And remember, you might need a different size for each ear.
The lifespan of your slim tube depends on how often you wear your hearing aids and how well you take care of them.
We do suggest that you replace your slim tubes every 4-6 months. Or, as soon as it seems to not fit well, starts to turn yellow, or whenever you aren't hearing well with your hearing aids anymore.
Slim tubes are designed to be lightweight and discreet, making them a more comfortable and less noticeable option compared to traditional ear molds. Not only do they look great, but they also have some functional benefits! Their bell-shaped design helps improve the clarity of higher-pitched sounds, which can be really helpful for many users.
While slim tubes might not be the right fit for everyone, they're a fantastic choice for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, especially if you have trouble hearing higher frequencies.
A telecoil is a small coil located inside hearing aids that acts as a tiny antenna or receiver. It picks up signals from induction loop systems, allowing users to hear sound directly through their hearing aids.
An induction loop system is a technology designed to improve access to spoken word in challenging listening environments. It consists of a loop of wire installed in public locations (like theaters, churches, and public transportation) that transmits sound through a magnetic field to telecoils in hearing aids.
When a telecoil in a hearing aid is activated, it detects the magnetic signals emitted by an induction loop system. This allows sound to be transmitted directly into the hearing aid, enhancing the listening experience by minimizing background noise and reducing strain in complex environments. Together, they significantly improve access to spoken communication in public settings.
No, a telecoil is not the same as Bluetooth®. While both technologies aim to improve how sound is delivered to hearing aids without wires, they work in different ways and serve different purposes.
A telecoil picks up sound signals through a magnetic field from an induction loop system, which is often found in public places like theaters or churches. This helps users hear conversations or announcements more clearly in these environments.
On the other hand, Bluetooth uses radio waves to wirelessly connect hearing aids to devices like smartphones and tablets. This allows you to stream music, phone calls, and other media directly to your hearing aids. Plus, many modern hearing aids can be adjusted through an app, thanks to Bluetooth.
So, while both technologies enhance the hearing experience, they do so in distinct ways that cater to different listening needs.
You can tell if a public place is equipped with an induction loop system by looking for a specific symbol. This symbol is a blue (sometimes red) rectangle with a white ear and the letter "T" or "MT" inside. When you see this symbol, it means there’s an induction loop or hearing loop available.
These symbols are usually small, so they can be easy to overlook. Keep an eye out for them at reception areas, counters, or near glass panels as you enter a building or room. If you're unsure, you can always ask someone at the location if they have an induction loop system.
RIC stands for receiver-in-canal. This type of hearing aid is small discreet, easy to fit and is great for first-time hearing aid wearers.
The benefit of receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids is that they are smaller, more discreet, and lightweight since the speaker sits inside the ear canal. This design makes them less visible and provides all-day comfort.
RIC hearing aids deliver sound more effectively by placing the speaker closer to your eardrum, which improves sound quality. They can reduce that annoying blocked feeling and feedback while amplifying high-pitched sounds better.
Plus, they come with different domes to fit various ear shapes, allowing natural sounds to enter the ear easily. Overall, RIC hearing aids cater well to those with mild to moderate hearing loss, combining aesthetics with improved sound performance!
Your hearing aids might be making these noises because the sound is escaping from the ear.
Try the following to resolve it:
-
Make sure your hearing aids are clean and free from debris.
-
Ensure your hearing aid is correctly positioned in and over your ear. Remove your hearing aid and reinsert your device.
-
If you have a small-sized or an open dome, try a larger and/or more closed dome.
-
Ensure your domes and slim tubes or receiver-in-canal (RIC) wires are clear of blockage or debris.
-
You may be wearing your hearing aid on too high a volume. Reduce the volume to see if it improves the noises.
-
Remove hair or clothing that might be covering the microphone of the hearing aid.
-
Have your ears checked for wax by your local healthcare provider.

Due to the variability in insurance coverage by plan and by state, we recommend you speak with your insurance provider directly to determine whether or not coverage is available for hearing aids. Some insurance companies that do cover hearing aids will cover them either completely, partially or provide a discount. Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not cover any hearing aids. Many Medicare Advantage Plans do provide a hearing aid benefit, please check your plan for more information. Many federal employees, in particular, may have plans that include coverage for hearing aids.
NOTE: If you have either United Healthcare insurance or NationsBenefits insurance, check your member portal or call them directly for your hearing aid benefit coverage.
Here are some questions you should ask your insurance or benefits provider prior to purchasing hearing aids: Do I have a hearing aid benefit? Am I eligible for the hearing aid benefit? What is my coverage amount per hearing aid? May I apply my hearing aid benefit towards over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids? What codes do I need on a claim from a hearing aid vendor in order to provide me with my maximum reimbursement? What documentation do I need to submit for my claim?
Yes, Lexie hearing aids are eligible for reimbursement with FSA and HSA. We provide a receipt after purchase, which can be submitted for HRA reimbursement.
Since hearing aids are medical devices, they are considered by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to be a deductible medical expense for income tax purposes.
It is always recommended that you check with your insurance provider or plan administrator prior to purchase.
Also, if you have any out-of-pocket balance due after your insurance benefit, you can apply your FSA/HSA/HRA dollars to that balance.
Yes, Lexie Hearing accepts all HSA/FSA credit and debit cards. Please ensure that the value on your card covers the entire purchase amount. There is no option to use a Health Benefit Account card if its value is less than the purchase amount. In that case, you might have to pay for the hearing aids as an out-of-pocket expense and then submit the receipts to your benefits administrator or submit a claim with required documentation.
For more information on your health insurance benefits as it applies to Lexie hearing aids please contact your Health Insurance provider.
